Michael Lingzhi Li is an Assistant Professor in the Technology and Operations Management Unit at Harvard Business School. He is also a Co-PI at the Data Science and AI Operations Lab at the D3 Institute and a Faculty Affiliate at the Harvard Data Science Initiative. His research sits at the intersection of causal inference, optimization, and AI, with a focus on designing and evaluating data-driven algorithms for high-stakes healthcare decisions. He has worked with hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and public health agencies to develop, deploy, and evaluate tools for clinical trial site selection, patient recruitment, physician-facing decision support, and AI-enabled healthcare operations. Some of his recent work examines how statistics, optimization, and AI can improve the efficiency of drug development and clinical evaluation in complex healthcare settings. His work has received several awards, including the INFORMS Innovative Applications in Analytics Award and Edelman recognition, and has been featured in MIT News and The New York Times. He received his Ph.D. in Operations Research from MIT and his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.
